Boffrand intègre dans la nouvelle construction les éléments subsistants de l'ancienne forteresse de Bassompierre. Les grilles sont dues à Jean Lamour et la statuaire à Barthélémy Guibal. A l'arrière du château, parc à la française et vaste perspective paysagère.
