# Château Bayard

Pontcharra, Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Château Bayard stands in Pontcharra (Isère), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Standing on a hilltop above the Grésivaudan valley, château Bayard occupies the site of a fortified house built in the early 15th century by the Terrail family. It is thought to be where the knight Pierre III Terrail, known as Bayard, spent his childhood and returned to between military campaigns. Left in ruin and later partly restored from the late 19th century onward, the site now houses a small museum on his life, set within a private estate surrounded by vineyards.
