# Ancien Palais impérial allemand ou Kaiserpalast, dit Palais du Rhin

Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin, Grand Est

Ancien Palais impérial allemand ou Kaiserpalast, dit Palais du Rhin stands in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Facing the Place de la République, this three-storey square building was erected to assert the German presence in Strasbourg after 1871, built as a residence for Emperor Wilhelm I and later his son Wilhelm II. Visitors can see a facade inspired by the Palazzo Pitti in Florence, a grand ceremonial staircase, and apartments ranging from Germanic neo-Renaissance style to a rococo salon designed for the empress. Turned in 1920 into the seat of the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine, the building survived both world wars and was rebuilt to its original design after the 1944 bombings.
