# Abbaye de Chaloché

Jarzé Villages, Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire

Abbaye de Chaloché stands in Jarzé Villages (Maine-et-Loire), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. No visits are on record for this building.

Founded in 1129 by monks from Savigny, Chaloché abbey preserves a group of medieval buildings straddling the boundary between Chaumont-d'Anjou and Corzé, near Angers. Visitors can see a remarkably large thirteenth-century barn, a vaulted gatehouse and a chapel, remnants of a Cistercian past that came under the authority of Cîteaux in 1147. The recumbent effigies of the Mathefelon family, patrons of the abbey church consecrated in 1223, testify to the site's seigneurial ties.
